[edit] History
Inaugurated in 1981 by the then British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, SPJIMR had modest beginnings as a small extension of the Bhavan's campus (of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan). The Institute was named after Sahu Shreyans Prasad Jain of the Sahu Jain family and was among the three business schools in India at that time.[8] The institute disaffiliated itself from the then Bombay University, to provide itself with more freedom in terms of curriculum decision making and pedagogy design. Since 1994-95, it has been ranked consistently among the top-10 B-schools of India.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, SPJIMR enhanced its infrastructure to incorporate IT-enabled education through 24-hour Internet connectivity in hostels and a virtual library.[9][10]
In the 2000s, the Institute also established two international campuses in Dubai and Singapore.[11] During this period, it also established ties with professional associations such as the Project Management Institute[12] and corporations such as GE[13] to offer specialized courses.
