Sadiqabad (Urdu: صادِق آباد‎), (Punjabi: صادق آباد) is a city and capital of Sadiqabad Tehsil in Rahim Yar Khan District, Punjab province of Pakistan.[1][2] It is situated at the border of Sindh and Punjab.

Sadiqabad, the most prominent Tehsil of Rahimyar Khan District, is named after Amīr Sadiq Mohammad Khan V of Bahawalpur State[citation needed]. The new city was for migrants that wrere victims of partition and inaugurated in 1948. The city has an estimated population of 205,797 with the tehsil as a whole having 760,769 inhabitants.[citation needed]

Sadiqabad is the main transport hub between Punjab and Sindh, both in goods and passenger transport.[citation needed] and there are now at least 10 colleges teaching the higher secondary school level.

Sadiqabad is known for its very peaceful environment. No incidence of riot, rebellion, civil disobedience, religious clashes or terrorism has been observed.

Location[edit]

Sadiqabad is the southernmost city of Punjab province. To the east is Rahimyar Khan tehsil, and on the west there is Ghotki. Rajanpur District lies north of the city and the border with India is to the south. The city is served by a major railway line and Shahrah-e-Pakistan, also called KLP road, at 28°18'0" North, 70°8'0" East. A canal flows through the city, roughly dividing the old and new parts.

It is the largest tehsil in Rahimyar Khan district, measuring 865¼ square miles (2249 km²).Majority of people are saraiki in rural areas and majority of people are punjabi in city. Its boundary starts from the middle of Dandy and Reti railway stations. Extending beyond Adam Sahaba, in length and breadth the Tehsil is about 50 km by 50 km.

Urban areas within the city include Zikria Garden, Jinnah town, Setlite Town, New Town, Mazhar Fareed colony, Mian Ghulam Rasool Colony, Public Colony,Ghari Bager, and Arain colony.

Rural Areas & Towns[edit]

Well-known areas are Bhong, Rahimabad, Jamal-din-wali.

Bhong[edit]

Bhong is known for masjid bhong and politically active Rais (indhar) family. Members of this family also serverd as Ex-federal minister Rais Muneer Ahmed PmlQ and Ex-MNA Rais Shabir Ahmed, Ex-District council chairman, MPA Rais Mehboob.


Rahimabad[edit]

Rahimababd is known due to politically active Legharis. Leghari family numerous members had served as Ex-Minister, Ex-zila nazim Rafique haider leghari, Ex-Mpa Azher Khan leghari and member national assembly Arshad khan leghari. Legharis also serverd as minister of Bhawalpur state.


Jamal-Din-Wali[edit]

jamal-din-wali is known for jdw sugar mill and politically active Makhdom {syed} family. Makhdom family had great historical role in southern punjab. Head of family was appointed as Minister for Refugees and Rehabilitation by His Highness the Amir of Bahawalpur in his Government after partition: was awarded the title of “Mukhdum-ul-Mulk” by His Highness the Amir of Bahawalpur in recognition of his meritorious services to the State. Ex-Governor Ahmed Mehmood is a prominent politician, he had numerously been elected to the Punjab and National Assemblies on PML-N and PML-F tickets.and quit parliamentary politics.

Ahmed pur lamma[edit]

Sheikhs are prominent family of town. Sheikh family members also served as ex mpa Aziz Aslam and chairmans of town. It was a Tehsil only to serve for a few years in regime of Nawabs. Its status of tehsil was confiscated in the favour of Sadiqabad.


Kacha Bhutta[edit]

kacha bhutta was also called Mini Larkana. Beccause the bhutto family of kacha bhutta had close relations and informal attachment with Chiefs of Bhutto Tribe, Sardar Wahid Bux Bhutto and Ameer Bux Bhutto. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto had very informal relationship with Malik Allah Yar Bhutto late. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto also had several personal visits. Benazir Bhutto Shaheed also had been to kacha bhutta during her political trip at the invitation of Malik Iqbal Bhutto late after the return from exile in 1986. Its a politically inactive family and has no role in present or future politics except splendid past.


Language[edit]

Majority of people speaks Punjabi & Riasti (saraiki) & Standard dialects. Sindhi and Urdu is also spoken in the city.

Agriculture[edit]

Sadiq Abad is very rich in agriculture. It is a fertile area, which produces large quantity of cotton, wheat and sugarcane besides many other, less significant crops. A large number of mango and orange gardens can also be found here. The mangoes of Sadiqabad are famous for their fragrance and taste. The area of Manthar in Sadiqabad is famous for its fertility, giving a record production of wheat and cotton every year.

Industry[edit]

Sadiqabad is experiencing an industrial growth. The biggest industrial unit in the city was Fauji Fertilizer Company, which was also the largest fertilizer unit in the country, until Fatima Fertilizer Limited started production. The latter is now the largest fertilizer unit of South Asia. There is a big unit of textile mills, beside many small looms. Sharex Laboratories manufactures medicinal products. A newly built motorcycle assembling plant has started its production. There are about 56 cotton ginning factories, over 100 oil mills, 30 floor mills, a number of soap factories, nearly 15 marble factories, many cold storages for fruits, as well as a nationwide milk product named Sheer Pak. As Sadiqabad is situated in a hot area, more than 60 ice factories work in the city. The extent of sugarcane processing can be guessed from the fact that there are two sugar mills in this tehsil, namely Jamal Din Wali Sugar Mills and United Sugar Mills in Walhar.The CH group is multi national company working in Sadiqabad and the CEO of CH Group is Zaid Chaudhary.
