[edit] Employment and Business

After graduating from Queen's, Malin joined Dome Petroleum in Calgary, Canada, as a geophysicist. Later, after Cambridge, he joined the Energy Group of international consultants Arthur D. Little in London. Since then, he has worked for Standard & Poor's DRI and has carried out a variety of advisory and analytical roles under a number of EU energy sector programmes.

Malin first came across Madagascar's giant onshore heavy oil Bemolanga and Tsimiroro fields in 1994. Some ten years later, in 2004, he founded Madagascar Oil with Alan Bond, Robert Nelson, and Michael Smith to develop these fields and to undertake exploration for onshore conventional oil and gas in Madagascar. Malin is also the founder of, and project originator for, Red Island Minerals, which is developing coal resources in and around the Sakoa region of southwestern Madagascar.

More recently, in 2006, Malin founded the Avana group of companies which cover oil and gas, uranium, gold and other minerals, arid zone seed oil, and properties projects in the western Indian Ocean region (including Madagascar, the Seychelles, the Comoros Islands, Mauritius and the east African margin).
