San Marcos is a city in the province of Carazo in Nicaragua. It is located approximately 35 minutes from the capital city of Managua, and has a population about 30,600 people.

San Marcos is known for being the birthplace of Anastacio Somoza Garcia, Nicaragua's former president/dictator. San Marcos is also host to the Ave Maria University-Latin American Campus, a branch of the Ave Maria University headquartered in Naples, Florida, USA. San Marcos' Catholic Church is in the middle of the town square, and is one of the most impressive colonial building in town. Msgnor Francisco Campos is the one responsible for its restoration and preservation. San Marcos is surrounded by nice coffee plations, and wonderful ornamental gardens.
