Sanad al-Kazimi

Sanad Yislam al Kazimi is a citizen of Yemen, currently held in extrajudicial detention in the United States Guantanamo Bay detainment camps, in Cuba.[1] The Department of Defense assigned al Kazimi the Internment Serial Number 1453 and reports that he was born on February 17, 1970.

As of August 11, 2011, he has been held at Guantanamo for six years 11 months.[2]

Upon his capture, al-Kazimi was sent to the Dark Prison in Kabul, and claims to have been suspended by his arms for long periods and being beaten with electric cables.[3]

During his imprisonment at the CIA black site, he attempted suicide three times, each time beating his head against a cell wall until losing consciousness. In the end, the United States chained and tranquilized him to prevent further attempts.[3]

A writ of habeas corpus was filed on Sanad Ali Yislam Al-Kazimi's behalf.
