Sand in Taufers (Italian: Campo Tures) is a comune (municipality) in South Tyrol in the Italian region Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, located about 110 km northeast of the city of Trento and about 70 km northeast of the city of Bolzano, on the border with Austria.
As of 30 November 2010, it had a population of 5,261 and an area of 164.3 km².[1]
Sand in Taufers borders the following municipalities: Gais, Percha, Prettau, Rasen-Antholz, Sankt Jakob in Defereggen (Austria), Mühlwald and Ahrntal.

[edit] Origin
Taufers is home to the impressive medieval Taufers Castle, which towers above village and was built in the early 13th century.[2]
[edit] Coat-of-arms
The arms is barry of six gules and argent. The first two of argent have three lozenge of azure, the third has two. The emblem was of the Lords of Taufers that became extinct in 1300. The emblem was adopted in 1967.[3]

According to the 2001 census, 96.72% of the population speak German, 2.94% Italian and 0.33% Ladin as first language.[4]
