The Santa Fe High School award-winning Chieftain Tribe Marching Band and Colorguard is currently under the direction of Mr. Terry Dawson. The Chieftain Tribe has had a long and awarded history of success.[5] The marching band participates in marching band competitions, competing against other high schools in California. The Chieftain Tribe has garnered several achievements, with the most recent being a third-place-win at the 2007 CSCB championships and placing 12th at the 2008 SCSBOA championships.[6] The tribe has also competed in the MBOS league for the first time in 2010 and was one of only twenty four bands to make it to championships for that year.[7]

Smaller subsets of the marching band are the jazz band, concert band, winter drumline, and winter guard. These groups are usually active during the Winter/Spring semesters after the marching band/football season has ended.
