Sara Stockbridge (born Sarah Jane Stockbridge[1] on 14 November 1965[2] in Woking, Surrey, England)[3] is an English model, actress and author who achieved a certain level of high fashion notoriety in the mid to late 1980s as the muse of designer Vivenne Westwood.[4] Bleached blonde and green-eyed, she epitomized Westwood's obsession with Royal style at the time, often seen out in a velvet and tweed crown based on the one Queen Elizabeth II wears. Stockbridge's naughty take on Marilyn Monroe, with smudged red lipstick, hair worn up in pin-curls, tight sweaters and heels was one of the iconic 'looks' of the late 80s.

[edit] Career
[edit] Modelling
Stockbridge moved to London aged 18 and was taken on by Models 1. She described her first assignment as "A disaster... I was six hours late for my first job because I'd got hammered the night before." A couple of years later she was asked to appear in a Vivienne Westwood show, to which Stockbridge was keen to do having previously been a punk.[5] Her first show was Mini Crini, Spring/Summer 1985. Afterwards, Westwood asked her to front a music project called Choice. She became referred to as Westwood's muse. She was featured on the cover of i-D magazine and Blitz magazine among others, though she was never fully embraced by the more mainstream high-fashion world. Sara modelled as Tank Girl for a series of promotional photos to help her gain the part of Tank Girl in the movie of the same name. Although she was unsuccessful in getting the part, the photos themselves became well known and for a time they were seen on the covers of magazines such as Elle, Vogue and The Face. She appeared as a shorn headed dominatrix in the British comedy film U.F.O. (film) In the film Oh Marbella! she plays the rich wife of a businessman at a nude resort in Spain, quite unlike her real self she has claimed in trailers. Stockbridge is still active in the modelling / acting world, and recently she returned for appearances on Westwood's runways, and in British Vogue as her muse.
[edit] Writing
Her first novel Hammer was published in 2009,[1] and has been given a contract to write another book. Her second novel was entitled Cross My Palm, and was published in 2011 by Chatto & Windus[6]
[edit] Personal life
Her modelling career was cut short by the birth of her son, Max, in 1990, who became a chef who trained at Le Gavroche and a teenage daughter named Lelu, from two previous relationships[1] At 45 she married for the first time to Cobalt Stargazer, lead guitarist with heavy rock group Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction. Together they formed a new band, Rooster, with Godwin Nwafor of Alabama 3.[7]
