Scotby

Scotby is a village in the City of Carlisle district of Cumbria, England, United Kingdom. It is separated from Carlisle itself only by the M6 Motorway, and is close to other dormitory villages in the area, such as Wetheral, Cumwhinton and Aglionby.

Scotby School is the main primary school for children living in the area. It has around 250 registered pupils, and its catchment includes Wetheral village and parts of eastern Carlisle.

There was formerly a railway station on the Tyne Valley Line, however the station was closed in 1959, before the Beeching Axe. The Settle-Carlisle Railway also runs through the village and Scotby also had a station on this line until 1942.

There is a village green in the centre of the village, and the village hall is located above it. Next to the green is the village shop, a pub (the Royal Oak) and a hairdresser. The village Church is located on high ground adjacent to the Tyne Valley Line railway bridge.

Scotby Cricket Club are currently one of the most successful sides in Cumbria. In 2005 winners of the Cumbria Cricket League, in 2007 they were the inaugural winners of the Eden Valley Premier League. The 2010 season saw Scotby CC finish second in both the Eden Valley Premier League and the Carlisle & District League, and win the Carlisle & District 20/20 knockout competition for the 5th year running, beating Caldbeck by 6 wickets thanks to 85 from Lord Teasdale and an unbeaten 75 from Mark 'Mally' Vasey. 2011 saw Scotby CC finish runners up in both The Eden Valley Premier League and in the Carlisle and District Knockout Cup and they were winners of the Eden Valley Cup with a 5 wicket victory over Nunwick CC in the final played at Carlisle CC with Nick "CTD" Rigg claiming 4 wickets and Mark "Mally" Vasey scoring 54 not out.

It is part of the Wetheral civil parish.
