Aegon UK, a brand name of Scottish Equitable plc, is a pensions and life assurance company with its head office in Edinburgh, Scotland. It has been a subsidiary of Aegon N.V. since 1994. In the UK it has pensions, investments, life insurance and advice businesses. The company has sales centres across the UK supporting its key distribution channels.

History[edit]

The company began in 1832 as the Scottish Equitable Life Assurance Society in Edinburgh.

In 1994, the company became Scottish Equitable plc and was purchased by Aegon. It was rebranded as Aegon Scottish Equitable in 2006, and in 2010 became known as Aegon, though its legal entity is still Scottish Equitable plc.

Sponsorship[edit]

In 2009, Aegon became the Lead partner of British Tennis in a five-year deal with the Lawn Tennis Association. The deal covers grass-roots prgrammes in schools and parks, support for talent development and sponsorship of tournaments. These include the Aegon Championships, an ATP World tour 250 series event held at the Queen's Club, London, in June each year.
