Scotts LawnService was founded in 1998 with the acquisition of Emerald Green Lawn Care. Scotts LawnService is a lawncare service provider and a division of the Scotts Miracle-Gro Company. Scotts LawnService provides care and maintenance for its customers’ lawns on a per-lawn basis, where all services and scheduled maintenances are determined by the unique set of circumstances that each lawn brings. Scotts LawnServices does not apply universal care or treatment programs to its customers’ lawns.
Customers’ lawns are evaluated and maintained only by certified lawncare professionals who must undergo a rigorous certification at the Scotts Training Institute before they are sent out to care for and maintain lawns.
Scotts LawnService customers are able to take advantage of the unique line of licensed lawn care and maintenance products that Scotts is able to deploy

2002: Scotts LawnService acquires The Lawn Company, a major lawn care service company in the Boston area.[2]
2002: Scotts LawnService acquires substantially all of the lawn care operations of Centex HomeTeam Services, a division of Centex Corporation.[3]

Scotts LawnService is really three different home service programs for its customers’ lawns, trees and homes. These include lawn service, Tree and Shrub Care and Pest Control. These services are available to Scotts LawnService customers as a package deal or through an à la carte basis. These services are available as independent service lines or can be combined to create a total lawn, landscape and pest control service package.

Scotts LawnService provides a professional care and maintenance program for its customers’ lawns. This includes a detailed lawn analysis, where Scotts certified lawncare professionals evaluate a lawn in the following areas:
- Grass and soil types - Thatch and turf density - Shade and sun exposure - Mowing and watering - Problem areas including disease, compaction, moles and pet damage - Grassy and broadleaf weeds - Insects
A custom lawn care and maintenance program is then created, based on the findings of the analysis.

The Scotts Tree and Shrub Care program focuses on the care and maintenance of its customers’ trees, shrubs and other larger plants. This program includes the following:

Trees and shrubs are fed with Scotts Miracle-Gro professional fertilizers. Fertilizers help prevent disease and improve the health and growth of trees and plants, when applied correctly.

Specific disease control and monitoring is important for preventing destructive diseases that can affect the health of trees and shrubs

Insects provide many more positive benefits than negative, which is why Scotts stresses the need to avoid eliminating all insect life around trees and shrubs. Scotts LawnService follows a strict policy of insect control that involves monitoring healthy populations of beneficial insects which re-distribute pollen and natural fertilizers.

Scotts Pest Control service is an option for customers to prevent unwanted pests from entering their homes. The service is an annual protection and focuses on eliminating the following types of unwanted pests among others:
- Spiders - Ants - Silverfish - Cockroaches - Other types of insects and pests
Scotts is now offering complete home pest control in limited markets. This Ortho Home Defense Pest Control Service offers complete pest control both around and inside the home.

Properly cared for and maintained lawns help cool the environment, convert carbon dioxide into oxygen, improve air quality and prevent erosion to stabilize the ground and soil.

Scotts LawnService has been recognized for its efforts to provide environmentally friendly lawn care. The following steps are outlined by Scotts as its three-pronged approach to environmentally conscious lawn treatment:
- Scotts certified professionals screen the active ingredients in its treatment programs to ensure that products are environmentally friendly. - Scotts applies its products using equipment which is designed to use only as much treatment ingredients as in needed by each lawn. - The thicker a lawn is and the deeper the roots are creates a better opportunity to absorb water and nutrients. This allows a lawn to naturally protect itself against drought.
