Seedcorn is the funding mechanism of the Department for Food Agriculture and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), in the United Kingdom. It is a major funding source for research institutes and a minor source of PhD studentship funding. The majority of the funding goes towards Central Science Laboratory projects.^{[citation needed]}
