Shahapur is a census town in Thane district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The nearest railway station is Asangaon, which is 85 km from Mumbai CST on the Central railway line. Shahapur is situated around 25 km from Kalyan railway station, 45 km from Thane, and 55 km from Mulund. Shahapur lies on the Mumbai-Agra National Highway - No.3 and is 90 km from Mumbai.
Shahpur in an industrial area also. Jindal steel has a plant here. Other notable firms that have a plat here is Liberty Oil. Shahapur is also a Taluka place and areawise Shahapur is the largest Taluka in Thane District. Most of the dams supplying water to Mumbai are located nearby. Shahapur is also surrounded by the Sahyadris and places like Mahuli and Aaja are hot-spots for trekking. The Maharastra Government has declared Shahapur a Tourism spot. There are many temples in shahapur like Manas Mandir, Sikh Gurudawara (near Asangaon).

Shahapur is located at 19°27′N 73°20′E / 19.45°N 73.33°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 46 metres (150 feet).
The total water supply to mumbai city is 3000 MLD per day. The four dams, namely, Tansa, Bhatsa, Vaitarna and Modak Sagar, alone caters 2900 MLD per day. The 100 MLD are supplied by two lakes located around Borivali, Tulsi and Vihar. Since Shahapur supplies almost the entire drinking water to Mumbai, the government of Maharashtra has declared this town a No Chemical Zone. Only problem with Shahapur city is its political leadership.Politicians lacks far sight and vision. Middle class,educated peoples and predominent Kunbi peoples don't have political space.Shahapur lacks basic infrastructure. Roads are full of pot holes.Usually small party karyakartas owns Innovas,Scorpios and many more.Educated peoples usually prefer local trains and autos.In shahapur local politicians are ultrarich.Shahapur Constitute 80% of Kunbi Maratha caste.

To reach Shahapur, you may either take a Maharashtra State Transport bus that leads to Shahapur.Asangaon is the main railway station which serves Shahapur.Take Asangaon or Kasara local train on central route of Mumbai Suburban Railway. To reach Shahapur by road come from the National highway no. 3. One can also reach Shahapur from National Highway No. 4 from Khopoli Haal Phata through Karjat - Murbad State highway or from Chauk - Karjat
