Shakhbut Bin Sultan Al Nahyan (1905–February 11, 1989) was the eldest son of Sheikh Sultan II bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the ruler of Abu Dhabi from 1922 to 1926. He succeeded his uncle Sheikh Saqr I bin Zayed Al Nahyan in 1928. Shakhbut was the ruler of the emirate of Abu Dhabi until August 6, 1966 when he was deposed in a bloodless coup by his brother Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who became the emir of Abu Dhabi, and eventually rose to become the undisputed leader of the United Arab Emirates.
