Shekomeko, New York

Shekomeko is a historic hamlet in the southwest part of the town of North East, New York, United States in Dutchess County. Location is 41°55'41"N 73°35'58"W, by County Route 83.
It was named after Shekomeko, a village of the Mahican people by Shekomeko Creek. The hamlet of Bethel, Pine Plains, New York is now located there. In 1740 a mission of Moravians was established at Shekomeko. The Mahican community became the first native Christian congregation in the present-day United States.[1]
