Shimanto (四万十市 Shimanto-shi?) is a city located in the southwestern part of Kōchi Prefecture, Japan. The city was formed on April 10, 2005 from the merger of the old city of Nakamura, and the village of Nishitosa, from Hata District.

Shimanto is located on the Shimanto River. The residents speak a distinct dialect of Japanese known as Hata-ben.[citation needed]

As of March 31, 2008, the city has an estimated population of 36,888 and a population density of 58.3 persons per km². The total area is 632.42 km².
