Showa Station (Antarctica)

Coordinates: 69°00′S 39°35′E / 69°S 39.583°E Showa Station (昭和基地 Shōwa Kichi), also sometimes spelled Syowa,[1] is a Japanese research station located on East Ongul Island in Antarctica. The station was built in 1957. It is named for the era in the Japanese calendar during which it was established, the Showa period.
