[edit] Football career
Sidnei started playing professionally with Sport Club Internacional, being part of the side that conquered the 2007 South American Supercup. On 24 July 2008, he signed a five-year contract with S.L. Benfica, who paid €5 million for 50% of his sports rights.[1]
During his first season in Portugal, he was used intermittently, but still managed to appear in 24 league matches and net three times on important occasions, including the 2–0 derby home win against Sporting Clube de Portugal, on 27 September 2008.
In June 2009, Benfica bought another 20% of Sidnei's sports rights, for €2 million. He played in only five league matches during the following season - eight overall appearances - as the Reds won the national championship after a five-year wait.
After spending the first half of 2010–11 on the bench, Sidnei was propelled to Benfica's starting XI after David Luiz moved to Chelsea in the winter transfer window. On 21 February 2011, he was sent off in a league game at Sporting, but the Reds still managed to win it 2–0.[2]
In early June 2011, Süper Lig outfit Beşiktaş J.K. agreed with Benfica on a one-year loan.[3]
