"The Silent Sun" (1968, album title "Silent Sun") is the premiere single by English rock band Genesis. It was written by Tony Banks and Peter Gabriel at a time when the band's potential producer, Jonathan King, was starting to lose interest. Knowing that King was a fan of the Bee Gees, Banks and Gabriel wrote the song specifically to recapture his attention, and they successfully did.[1] The band was signed and the song was released as a single on 22 February 1968. They would soon begin work on their debut album, From Genesis to Revelation.

"The Silent Sun" is a fusion of folk rock and pop rock. The heavy use of orchestral strings and lightweight romantic lyrics make this song a far cry from the progressive music that would follow on Genesis' next album, Trespass. The song, like most of From Genesis to Revelation, has been mostly ignored by the band, and it has not appeared on any Genesis compilation or live album.

It was reissued in July 2006 under the title "The Silent Sun 2006", with no B-side.
