In music, simple metre or simple time is a time signature or metre in which each beat (or rather, portion, 1/2 or 1/3 of a measure) divides naturally into two equal parts, as opposed to three, which is compound metre.
For example, in the time signature 3/4 in simple metre, each measure is divided into three beats, making it triple metre, and each of those beats divides into two quavers (eighth notes), making it simple triple.
