Society of Translators and Interpreters of British Columbia

The Society of Translators and Interpreters of British Columbia (STIBC) represents translators, terminologists and interpreters in British Columbia. The Society's certified members benefit from "occupational title protection" in British Columbia and are entitled to use the following designations: Certified Translator (C.T.), Certified Terminologist (C. Term.), Certified Conference Interpreter (C.C.I.), and Certified Court Interpreter (C.Crt. I.).
The STIBC is affiliated with the Canadian Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters Council (CTTIC) and the International Federation of Translators (FIT).

The Society of Translators and Interpreters of British Columbia was incorporated in 1981.

As of June 2004, the Society had more than 450 members: 312 certified translators and interpreters and 144 associate members. The members represented over 80 language combinations.
As of May 2008, the Society's membership consisted of approximately 314 Founding and Certified translators and interpreters, certified in over 80 language combinations (translators: 62 unique combinations; court interpreters: 18; conference interpreters: 4), and approximately 134 Associate members.
