Sofia Kristina Hellqvist (born 6 December 1984) is a Swedish erotic glamour model and reality television contestant. She is the fiancée of Prince Carl Philip, Duke of Värmland.[2]

As a glamour model, Hellqvist won the men magazine Slitz's, Miss Slitz competition in 2004 and was then was cast by TV4 and participated in the reality television show Paradise Hotel in 2005.[3]

Hellqvist has been in a relationship with Prince Carl Philip since 2010.[4] After the initial confirmation of their relationship, it was reported that the Swedish monarchy was "on the defensive", due to Hellqvist's history as a semi-nude erotic model and reality television contestant.[5] In April 2011, the couple moved in together at a private estate in Djurgården, Sweden.[6] The couple have announced that they are getting married in the summer of 2015.[7]

Early life and career[edit]

Hellqvist was born in Täby and moved to Älvdalen at the age of six.[8] At age 16 she modeled for erotic pictures in Thailand and Sweden. Later, she moved to study in Stockholm where she also worked part-time as a waitress and glamour model.[9] At the age of twenty, she did a photoshoot for the men's magazine Slitz in which she posed wearing only a bikini bottom and a live boa constrictor around her upper body.[5] She was later voted Miss Slitz 2004 by readers.[9] When the relationship between Hellqvist and Prince Carl Philip was revealed in 2010, Expressen newspaper published the photos again.[10] Following the Miss Slitz 2004 vote, Hellqvist was cast and offered a spot on the reality show Paradise Hotel on TV4. Hellqvist accepted and made it to the final.[10] During her stay at the show, she had a much-publicized feud with fellow contestant Olinda Castielle.[11][12] In the end, Hellqvist got the opportunity to vote one fellow contestant off the show and decided to cast her vote on Castielle.[13]

After Paradise Hotel[edit]

After Paradise Hotel 2005, she moved to New York City, where she studied to become a yoga-teacher. Hellqvist also started her own yoga center in Manhattan.[10]

Hellqvist made headline news by revealing that she had been making out with U.S. porn star Jenna Jameson during a visit to Las Vegas.[14]

In 2010, Hellqvist spent some time in Langa, South Africa with Project "Playground".[15][16]

Personal life[edit]

In August 2010, Royal Court spokesperson Nina Eldh confirmed the relationship between Hellqvist and Prince Carl Philip in a statement released by the palace.[5] The UK Daily Telegraph described the news as putting the Swedish monarchy "on the defensive", due to Hellqvist's history as a semi-nude model and reality television contestant.[5] In April 2011, the couple moved in together at a private estate in Djurgården, Sweden.[6] In June of the same year, the palace confirmed that the couple lived together in Djurgården.[17] On 27 June 2014, it was announced that Hellqvist is engaged to Prince Carl Philip. They plan to marry on 13 June 2015.[18] In December 2014 Hellqvist made her debut at the Nobel Banquet in the Blue Hall along with Prince Philip.[19][20]
