Soho House is a chain of private members clubs aimed primarily at those in the arts and media. The original location is at 40 Greek Street, Soho, London, England.

There are now nine 'houses' worldwide :

  • Soho House, 40 Greek Street, London - The original, opened in 1995
  • Babington House, Babington - Opened 1998
  • Electric House, Notting Hill, London, W2 - Opened April 2002, sharing its site with the Electric Cinema
  • Soho House New York, Manhattan’s Meatpacking District - Opened June 2003
  • High Road House, Chiswick, London - Opened July 2006
  • Shoreditch House, Shoreditch, London, E1 - Opened June 2007 and extended with a small hotel and larger roof garden in 2010
  • Soho House Berlin, Berlin - Opened May 2010[1]
  • Soho Beach House, Miami Beach - Opened 2010
  • Soho House West Hollywood, 9200 Sunset Boulevard - Opened Spring 2010[2]

Its founder and managing director is Nick Jones[3].

Soho House New York was featured in Season 6 of the TV Series Sex and the City in an episode titled Boy Interrupted. In this episode Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) pretends to be a member by using a stolen membership card[4] .

Membership is difficult to obtain and its members are drawn exclusively from the media, arts and fashion industries.

On December 9, 2010, swimwear designer Sylvie Cachay was found dead in a bathtub in a hotel room in the New York location. It was later alleged that her boyfriend at the time held her under water and strangled her.[5]

[edit] Acquisition

On January 13th 2012, the Financial Times announced that Soho House Group had been acquired by the US billionaire Ron Burkle, through his investment fund Yucaipa. The acquisition value was not released but Burkle now owns 60% of the group[6] .
