Sotheby’s International Realty is a luxury real estate brand founded in 1976. Sotheby's International Realty offices were founded in 1976 to focus on the brokering and marketing of luxury residential real estate. One month after Cendant terminated its licensing and services agreements with Trilegiant in January 2004, Sotheby's Holdings sold its 15 Sotheby's International Realty offices (together with the brand's licensing rights) to Cendant. In July 2006, Cendant spun off Sotheby’s International Realty to a new parent company, Realogy. Sotheby’s currently has real estate offices located around the world with over 500 offices and 11,000 sales consultants.
In March 2010, it was announced that Sotheby’s International Realty Affiliates has agreed an exclusive 25-year licensing agreement for the United Kingdom with Countrywide, the UK’s largest estate agency group and provider of related property services. This license grants Countrywide exclusivity to the Sotheby's International Realty brand throughout the UK and Channel Islands, leading to the creation of a new subsidiary called United Kingdom Sotheby’s International Realty.
