Soccer-Laduma is a weekly football newspaper from South Africa. There is also a website of the same name. Soccer fans in South Africa and beyond can also access the site on their mobile phones.
The newspaper focuses mainly on South African soccer. The website focuses on South African as well as international soccer. It is also a forum for soccer fans to discuss topical issues relating to global soccer.
Soccer in South Africa has seen its profile increase greatly as the 2010 FIFA World Cup to be held in that country quickly approaches.
Laduma (pronounced luh-doo-ma) is a South African regionalism that over time the word 'laduma' has come to mean 'goal' in South Africa after being popularised by a Zulu-speaking soccer commentator in the past[who?]. The root of the word refers to the Zulu phrase for 'it thunders'. The word is used as a cheer when a goal is scored. South African commentators have been known to scream 'Laduma!' in the same way that South American commentators scream 'Gol![who?]'
