Southeast University (Bengali: সাউথ ইস্ট বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) or (SEU) is a non-profitable private university located at Banani, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The university was established under the Private University Act, 1992 approved by the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

Southeast University (SEU)" was established in June 2002 as a private university under the 'Private University Act 1992'. The President of Bangladesh is the Chancellor of SEU.

Goal and Scope: The goal of the University is to provide excellent modern education for students with a view to equipping them with the skill and knowledge necessary to lead the country in its quest for development. Along with this, the University also aims at producing students of high moral standard in its students. Southeast University (SEU) has the authority, under its charter, to provide instruction to confer Undergraduate and Post Graduate degrees. It has plans to offer MPhil. and PhD programs in all branches of higher studies including engineering, agriculture, law and medical sciences. It has also the authority to grant diplomas, certificates and other academic distinctions. It has also the authority to open new Schools of studies and new institutions in its own campus. The University is run by a number of statutory bodies as required under the provisions of the Private University Act, 1992. It was awarded the best school of business award by the Financial Express in 2006. It is still renowned as the fastest growing business school.^[2]

Southeast is the first university in private sector to offer a comprehensive e-based virtual learning program to benefit those students who could not come to campus due to various constraints.

SEU virtual campuses organize classes without classrooms, exam without textbooks. It is a distance learning process which involves CD, lecture sheets, audio-video system. Currently SEU is providing tuition in MBA and BA(Hons.)& MA in Islamic Studies in the Distance Mode in the Dhaka campus. Presently the University opened regional resource centers at Khulna, Jessore, Chittagong, Mymensing, Rangpur, and Kustia. SEU is also planning to open resource center at various important places of the country.

Southeast University has a well equipped Studio (Media Center) where from it can make control of Virtual campus website, can arrange video conference remotly, can prepare class lecture, CD materials, Audios, Videos, Multimedia presentation etc. Very soon it will going to broadcast educational programs in some bd TV Channel under the Program of distance Education.

Southeast University gives different facilities to its students.

Credit System: Academic programs of Southeast University are based on credit system. Each academic program has a requisite number of credits to complete the degree. One credit hour indicates one lecture hour of study per week for a semester. Usually, a course is of three credit hours.

Financial Assistance Southeast University has a policy for financial assistance for the poor but meritorious students

Accommodation facilities are available for women students at a reasonable cost. The University has also an experienced physician for students' health care.

Facilities for Distance Mode of Education: Audio visual studio for recording lectures. Web-based Virtual Campus for distance mode students. CD facilities to deliver lectures; audio and video lectures on CD-ROM. Facilities for Books, Guides, Modules etc. Tutorial support for students both in face mode as well as in virtual mode using e-mail services. Local Centers outside Dhaka to facilitate support to students outside Dhaka.

Labs & Hostel Facilities for Students

1. Five Computer Labs.
2. One Digital Lab. Two Labs. for Cyber Corner (Internet Facilities).
3. One rich Pharmacy Lab. is for Pharmacy Department.
4. Five Ladies' Hostel.

The library will have a seating capacity of 100 students and shelf space of over 5,000 volumes. It will have a separate reference and journals section, which will be one of the most up-to-date library in the country. The library resources cover many discipline, such as business, law, management, computer science, economics, environmental studies, English language and literature, history, culture, Information Technology, psychology, religion, sociology, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Architecture, etc. The total number of books will be in the five figures and will be increasing everyday. The SEU library will subscribe substantial number of daily newspapers, magazines, fortnightly, and research journal. Different titles of news-clippings on current subjects relating to the curricula as well as socio-economic aspects, national and international affairs will also be readily available for keeping the readers up-date. At the SEU library, one can find a variety of print and non-print forms, such as books. CDs, journals, and magazines and also a modern customized database. Users may find research materials, slides and A/V cassettes, search a number of CD-ROM database and free access to Internet.

Southeast University is now linked with journal publishers through an international organisation named INASP/PERI (www.inasp.info/peri/index.shtml). Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) is acting as the coordinating body in Bangladesh . It is expected that most of the journal articles can be downloaded without username and password. This facility is IP based and work only from SEU computers.

The SEU library will offer regular services such as circulation, reference, counseling, indexing, bibliographical documentation, back up services, retrospective searches etc.

Southeast University has a library equipped with a variety of books on the academic programs offered as well as on research and extracurricular activities on different topics and events. At present the total collection of books and journals at library is about 6000. The total space area of the library is 3000 square feet. It is a central library of the University rendering services to the students and faculty members. The Library has special feature, that is to say, it has a modern automation system to run its day to day activities. It has also a distance corner which contains sizeable amount of books, journals, reprints, documents and booklets.

There is a Library Committee to formulate policies and increase the modern facilities for the library users.

SEU Library is situated at the 3rd floor of the SEU main Building.

Library services for Students/Faculties: About five hundred students come regularly to the library to study. There is also a reading corner in the library for the teachers. It has also a cyber corner which helps students and teachers to have the latest information & references through the Internet.

Southeast University has arrangement of co-curricular activities for its students. With regular studies the University encourages students to undertake co-curricular activities to promote their physical, social and cultural progress. SEU students participate in voluntary blood donation program twice a year to create awareness among students in order to provide safe blood. SEU cricket Team takes part in Inter Private University Cricket Tournament Championship. Southeast University organizes Rallies for the creation of social awareness of different problems such as anti-drug and smoking etc.. The university also arranges regional warm-up Contest, National Mathematics Olympiad, National Computer Programming Contest & such other events like seminar and workshop for important social and economical issues that has great impact on our life. For refreshment and gaining practical knowledge, University also arranges picnic and study tour. FEATURES OF SEU :

1. The academic curricula of SEU have been carefully designed and developed with the help of distinguished experts and experienced academicians from some reputed universities at home and abroad to meet international standard in education.
2. The University follows modern and American system of education.
3. All students of SEU will be well-equipped with computer literacy.
4. Academic and extracurricular activities are conducted in such a manner that the students remain busy with these activities throughout the year.
5. To remove deficiency of the students in English language remedial courses on English are offered.
6. To update students' knowledge about Bangladesh and contemporary world some general courses will also be offered.
7. Facilities for transfer of credits to some foreign universities will be made available.
8. Financial assistance will be offered to really poor but meritorious students of SEU.
9. Deserving senior and bright students of SEU will be offered teaching and research assistantships in this University.
