The Bible Chapel, formally known as South Hills Bible Chapel and St. Clair Bible Chapel, is a non-denominational Christian church located in McMurray, Pennsylvania. The history of this church goes back to 1963 when nine couples began meeting in the South Hills region for Bible study and prayer. After years of planning to establish a new church, the organization held its first church service on June 15, 1965, at a municipal building in Upper St. Clair. The church was originally named St. Clair Bible Chapel.
Families involved with the church enjoyed a variety of Bible teachings, Youth Groups, and music. In 1968, the organization purchased its first building. About ten years later, a 240-seat sanctuary was added. By 1980, the congregation grew to approximately 140 members. The church acknowledged the need for a full-time pastor. In May 1985, Dr. John H. Munro became The Bible Chapel's first pastor.
In September 1992, Dr. Munro left the church to take on another pastorate. The church's associate pastor, Ron Moore, who joined the church in 1989, became the senior pastor.
The church's fundraisers did a remarkable job in raising money for the church, and in January 1993 the church had raised $600,000 to purchase their present 20-acre (81,000 m2) property. In December 1995, construction of the new facility was complete and services were held at the current location.
Today, The Bible Chapel continues to grow as new members join almost monthly. There were approximately 1,200 members and over 2,000 attendees as of December, 2009.
The Bible Chapel celebrated the opening of its first multi-site location in November of 2009. The new location prompted the name change from South Hills Bible Chapel to The Bible Chapel, in order to make the name less location specific. The new site, located in Robinson, is led by Campus Pastor Scott Arvay and Associate Worship Pastor Justin Bowers.
