The Southern States Football League (SSFL) is a late winter-spring semi-pro American football league with all of its teams based in Florida. It has one of the most remarkable business forms in the industry, where a person may put together a team and register it into the SSFL. Every off-season, teams come and go.

The SSFL's seasons play out very much like the NFL's. Each team plays a 10-week schedule. At the conclusion of the season, all teams have a bye week, then the playoffs begin. Teams with the best records during the regular season will have home field advantage for the playoffs, but this is where all similarities to the NFL end. Until the 2007 season, all SSFL teams made the playoffs, regardless of their record. In 2007, the last-place team in the league will miss the 12-team playoffs. The two conference champions play for the league title in the Rice Bowl, currently held in Orlando's Citrus Bowl.
