Supercopa de España

The Supercopa de España is a Spanish football championship contested by the winners of the La Liga and the Copa del Rey.
The 2009 edition of the Supercopa de España was played between FC Barcelona and Athletic Club Bilbao. FC Barcelona were victorious, winning the first leg 2-1 in Athletic on 19th August 2009 and following it up with a comfortable 3-0 victory in the Camp Nou, scoring three goals, two from Lionel Messi and one from Bojan Krkić on the 23rd August 2009.

* In 1984 and 1989 the cup was awarded to Athletic Bilbao and Real Madrid respectively as they had won La Liga/Copa del Rey doubles.
** However, in both 1996 and 1998 it was contested, even though Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona also won the double, respectively. The losing finalist in La Copa del Rey was selected to play and won both times. The cup was not contested in 1986 or 1987 as the clubs involved could not agree on dates.
*** In 2009, FC Barcelona won La Liga/Copa del Rey double, however the Supercopa was played between FC Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao. The away game was played in Bilbao on 16th August with the second game being played in Barcelona on 23rd August.
