The Passaic-Bergen Passenger Rail Project[1] is a project being conducted by New Jersey Transit to reintroduce passenger service on the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway. As of September 2008, plans call for service to run from Hawthorne through Paterson to Hackensack using newly built, FRA-compliant diesel multiple unit rail cars.[2][3] Construction could begin in early 2009, and last approximately 3 years. New Jersey Transit has agreed to pay New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway more than $20 million dollars for a 75-year easement that will allow passenger service on the freight railroad.[4]
[edit] Proposed stations
Plans call for a station at Hawthorne, where transfer to the Main Line would be available, five stations in Paterson, one station in Elmwood Park, New Jersey, and two stations in Hackensack.[1]
The line as proposed would also cross Saddle Brook, Rochelle Park and Maywood, but would not have any station stops in those communities.
