Privacy
- Your username will frequently appear publicly on the site; editors who use their real names have sometimes been subjected to harassment. See the pros and cons of using your real name.
- Your IP address and e-mail address will be visible to a small number of users under tightly controlled circumstances related to control of vandalism and other disruption; see the site privacy policy for more.
- Consider carefully if you wish to put personal information about yourself on Wikipedia (especially information that may enable someone to identify you). Generally there is no requirement to do this, although you are welcome to if you wish.
Your password:
For your own security, please choose a secure password. See Wikipedia:Security or our article on password strength for help in choosing a strong password.
(A typical "strong" password is at least 8 characters long, contains a mix of upper and lower case letters and numbers, and is not made up mostly of dictionary words and names.)
Your username must not:
- be offensive or confusing
- contain names of celebrities, notable world figures or events, or known Wikipedians
- contain existing company, organization, or group names (including non-profit organizations)
- contain words like "bot" or "script" that refer to automated editing processes
- contain titles like "admin" or "sysop" that imply authority on Wikipedia
- contain domain names or email addresses

In addition, if you already have an account with Wikipedia and simply wish to change your username, you can submit a request.
