The Special Brigade (Serbian: Специјална бригада, Specijalna brigada) is the main and the most elite special forces unit of the Serbian Land Forces. It consist from counter terrorist-, reconnaissance-, command-units, paratroopers and diving units.
The brigade was formed on September 29, 2006 (with command in Pančevo) from the former most elite special units of Military of Serbia and Montenegro; 63rd Paratroop Brigade from Niš, 72nd Special Brigade "Hawks" from Pančevo, "Cobras", 82nd reconnaissance-demolition diving sea center "Shadows" from Kumbor and some smaller units.
The Special Brigade can operate on the whole territory of Serbia and in the enemy territory, jointly with Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs special units and with support of Air Force, armored units, engineering-, artillery-, signal-, electronic reconnaissance-units and electronic warfare and other units. The command of the brigade and most of the units are located at Pančevo, while the 63rd Paratroop Battalion is based in Niš.
