Following the group's label transfer to Universal Music Japan, they also revealed that they will be releasing their new single, “Spring of Life“, during the spring time. On April 4, 2012, it was revealed that the coupling B-side song of the single will be called “Communication“. It was chosen as the CM song for ‘Kanro Pure Gummy‘ candy.
The song is described as an upbeat tune that is perfect for the spring season. This was also producer Yasutaka Nakata's first single to be produced within the label since Meg's "Passport/Paris" in 2010.
A teaser for the music video was uploaded on Perfume's official YouTube channel on March 18, 2012.A longer version was then uploaded on March 29. The full music video premiered on MTV Japan's TV channel on March 31, 2012.
The music video was shot from March 3–4 and took around 28 hours to complete starting from 7:00 on March 3 till 11:00 on March 4. The theme of the video is "Android Perfume". The members stated that they found it interesting to try and imitate the image of themselves as robots and dolls. They also found the choreography of the music video to be the most powerful that they've done so far.
The video shows the group coming to life as robots or androids while being controlled by an automated-computer to perform human-like interactions such as eating, dancing, smiling and crying. Near the end of the video, the message "Love" is uploaded onto the computer's program and the group begins to act more human-like. It then ends with member Nocchi pulling the power-plug off A-chan's back out of curiosity resulting in her shutting down along with the other members and the computer.
