[edit] E.T. Richardson Middle School
It is the public middle school of Springfield, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Its grounds are currently under construction due to the K-1 center, and will soon only be occupied by grades 6-8.In September 2010 E.T.R will only be holding grades 6-8, because of the K-1 center being built. Principal Dan Tracy and Vice Principal Madaline O'Dowd run this fine establishment.
[edit] Springfield High School
Springfield High School is the only public school in the Springfield-Morton collective community (Cardinal O'Hara being the parochial option in the township). The high school currently has around 1200 students enrolled and serves children in grades 9-12.
[edit] Athletics
The Springfield Cougars compete in several varsity, sports each participating in the Central League. These sports include: football, ice hockey, baseball, field hockey, soccer, lacrosse, swimming, basketball, cheer-leading, wrestling, Science Olympiad, tennis, and golf.
[edit] Football
Quite recently, the Cougars have turned around their previously failing football program beginning with the hiring of ex University of Virginia Quarterback and Downingtown East and West Chester Rustin Offensive Coordinator Dan Ellis as Head Coach in 2008, who left the program after leading the team to a 7-3 regular season record in 2010 and a school history first state playoff win. Ellis left the program to become head coach at West Chester East High School in order to fulfill familial obligations. To fill Ellis' place, Springfield promoted lineman coach Tom Kline, a long time colleague of Ellis', to Head Coach. Kline led the Cougars to a remarkable 8-2 regular season record only to lose the school's first home playoff match against Academy Park. However, this regular season output made it clear that the Cougars were not going to take a step back in their program's progress, and indeed would continue to build upon previous successes under Kline's administration.
[edit] Music Programs
Springfield High School allows their students to participate in any of the following musical programs: Cougar Marching Band, Orchestra, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and the Pit Orchestra which performs the soundtrack for the school's annual musical.
[edit] Orchestra
The Springfield High School Orchestra is directed by euphonium player Kevin Cooper. Cooper directs the 3rd and 4th Grade Orchestra, the 8th Grade Orchestra and the High School Orchestra. The high school orchestra is known for its excellent cello section, a small 6 piece section that commands the rest of the ensemble
[edit] Academics
The high school and middle school have one of the best Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science teams in the state.[citation needed] The current era of the team started in the 2006-2007 school year. Since then the team has grown to 32 members in the 2010-2011 school year. Approximately 85-90% of the students qualify for the state meet each year. This is much higher than the normal qualification rate of 65-70%. Students from Springfield have placed extremely well over the past few years and in that past two years 7 the 7 eligible students have won scholarships. The team has also accumulated over $100,000.00 in prizes and scholarships in the past 5 years.
[edit] Future development
The Springfield Literacy Center project is complete. Now the district will begin planning the remodeling/replacement of Springfield High School.
