Squad XP was a community based website that placed an emphasis on the "Social Gamer". What was once a small project had become a project with a significant role in the gaming community before its end in June 2009.[1]

Squad XP has been featured in numerous articles and has interviewed people inside and outside of the gaming world, such as NFL quarterback Brady Quinn[citation needed], Major Nelson (Show 58)[2], Xbox Live Group Manager Aaron Greenberg (BIGVIP)(Show 52, Show 84, Show 100.1)[3] [4], Xbox Community Lead Trixie (Show 59)[5], and Xbox Japan General Manager Takashi Sensuiin (Show 48)[6], among others.

Kelly "K Rock" Gomes and Carlos "Rodder" Noda were the hosts of the weekly show, with content such as news updates, industry updates, exclusive interviews, and a relationship segment to help viewers with their problems.

On June 14, 2009 Squad XP announced that it would cease producing podcasts, and their forums had been transferred to Platform Nation.

[edit] History

Squad XP is a website that was launched on December 12, 2004 by founder Kelly Gomes,[citation needed] better known as K Rock in the Squad XP community, and as of June 14, 2009 has ceased to exist.

[edit] Version 1.0

The original idea for creating a website started in November 2003. Squad XP originally started as a clan for the online Xbox game Halo 2.[citation needed] K Rock retained the domain after the clan dissolved and while working at Cingular Wireless he met Carlos Noda, Rodder XP. Rodder came to K Rock with an idea for a website where they would post news that mattered to the community and then voice their opinions in a radio show format. The show launched on September 19, 2005 (Recording).[7]

Rodder eventually joined the show December 12, 2005[8] and Julian Rodriguez, Julez XP later followed along with Bounty XP.[citation needed]

Once the site launched, it was receiving about 70 hits a day and had 25 people subscribed to the podcast.[citation needed]

[edit] Version 2.0

As the site received more recognition across gaming sites,[citation needed] a faster way to post news needed to be implemented. K Rock reached out to Ricky McInnes from Tshizzle.com for help in getting the site on a better platform. McInnes thought it would be best to convert to PHP-Nuke since it was an easier way to administrate the site and for the community to post news.[citation needed] After a few weeks of work, Version 2.0 was released.

Squad XP adopted Jason Sipes, a community member that was avid in posting news for the site during E3. After E3, Jason, otherwise known as FordGTGuy joined Squad XP to form its news department.[citation needed]

Jeffrey Rosales, Bounty XP, joined the show in June 2006 and was an instant hit with the community for his outlandish behavior.[citation needed]

In July 2006 Microsoft announced Xbox Live Arcade Wednesdays.[9] Squad XP, with sponsorship from Napster and Gorilla PR, went on to host one of the biggest Xbox Live Arcade Parties in the USA.[10] It was during that time K Rock interviewed Xbox Live Group Manager, Aaron Greenberg.

K Rock set out to change the site graphically. He issued a call to listeners to submit graphic designs for the site's redesign project. K Rock met Erick Lepparra, Method in Chaos. They began working on what SquadXP.com 3.0 would look like.

[edit] Version 3.0

In July 2006 Kelly Gomes (K Rock) was featured on Xbox.com's Spotlight program.

In September 2006 Microsoft invited Squad XP to attend the Tokyo Game Show.[citation needed] Show 46, 47, 48, and 49 were all recorded for TGS.

In February 2007 Squad XP covered Super Bowl XL which was held in Miami, Florida. They interviewed Cleveland Browns NFL quarterback Brady Quinn.

On December 2, 2007 The Squad XP Podcast hit show number 100.
