[edit] History
St. Mary's School was founded in 1864 by members of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), a Roman Catholic religious order founded by Ignatius of Loyola in 1540. The school began as a Catholic military orphanage.
It conferred the degree/diploma of a Cambridge University O level of education, which has been renamed ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education) diploma.
The school has four Gothic style buildings and is divided in two sections, Senior Section (Class 5 and above) and Junior Section (Class 4 and below). It has two soccer/hockey/cricket play fields, an audio visual auditorium, two indoor gymnasiums, a play garden for the kindergartners and a basketball court as well as two assembly halls.
The school, in its earlier days, had mango plantations on its campus which has now made way for the play fields. Outside the school premises, adjoining the railway tracks, was a fresh water stream where the students would actually sit and catch fish. These days, it has been reduced to a sewage outlet.
[edit] Motto
The school motto is Latin Immaculata, literally "immaculate" in the sense of Mary's conception untainted by original sin, or in the sense of "perfection". In simple words, it translates to "perfect commitment".
