Educational Value[edit]

The educational philosophy at St Michael’s is designed to support, encourage and inspire students to realise their potential and become high achievers in their chosen fields.

The success of St Michael’s College is based on an educational ideal that has withstood the test of time for more than three centuries.

As a Catholic Lasallian school, St Michael’s has an educational program that balances high personal achievement with personal and spiritual growth. The overriding focus is to provide students with a learning experience that allows them to achieve their full potential as highly capable, well-rounded individuals.

St Michael’s has developed a learning environment designed to equip students with the skills and confidence to succeed in life and become an integral member of their community. The College’s educational philosophy embraces the unique requirements of each individual, including those especially gifted and talented or those who may have special needs.

A broad-based curriculum accommodates a wide range of subjects, an extensive range of Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses and a comprehensive co-curricular program.

Educational values and practices are founded in the Catholic, Lasallian tradition - an education characterised by the core values of:[4]

  • Faith
  • Service
  • Community
  • Meaningful Learning
  • Mutual Respect

St Michael’s has developed a broad-based curriculum that meets the needs and abilities of all students and challenges them to achieve the highest standards.

In keeping with its Lasallian ethos our curriculum embraces all key learning areas and gives special attention to literacy and numeracy. It is responsive to the changing demands of a modern, forward-looking education system and strives to give all students the opportunity to reach their full potential.

For highly motivated students and those displaying special gifts or talents, a differentiated curriculum is available to accelerate and enrich their progress.[5]
