Karađorđe Stadium (Serbian: Стадион Карађорђе, Stadion Karađorđe), formerly known as the Stadium of Vojvodina (Serbian: Стадион Војводине, Stadion Vojvodine), is a multi-purpose stadium in Novi Sad, Vojvodina, Serbia. The stadium is one of the most modern stadiums in Serbia. It also has one of the best pitches in the country. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of FK Vojvodina. The stadium is capable of holding up to around 20,000 people, although the stadium's seating capacity can only seat up to 15,754 people. After the reconstruction in 2009, it was venue of the 2009 European Athletics Junior Championships and the 2011 UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship.
Formerly, it was known as the City Stadium (Serbian: Градски стадион or Gradski stadion). In 2007, the stadium has been renamed to Stadium Karađorđe after Karađorđe "Black George", the leader of the First Serbian uprising. However, Stadium Karađorđe was in fact the older and original name of the stadium that was used from its foundation in 1924 until the end of the Second World War.[1]
