Stanford is a town in and the county seat of Judith Basin County, Montana, United States.[1] The population was 454 at the 2000 census.

Stanford is located at 47°9′11″N 110°13′9″W / 47.15306°N 110.21917°W / 47.15306; -110.21917 (47.153083, -110.219175)[2].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.0 km2), all of it land.

As of 2009, Stanford's population is 399 people. Since 2000, it has had a population growth of -8.15 percent. The average household size is 2.22 people. 20.37% of people are married, with children. 3.21% have children, but are single.[1]

The racial makeup of the town was 98.68% White, 0.22% African American, 0.44% Native American, and 0.66% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.44% of the population.

There were 193 households out of which 23.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.4% were married couples living together, 4.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 42.4% were non-families. 38.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.16 and the average family size was 2.93.

In the town the population was spread out with 24.0% under the age of 18, 4.6% from 18 to 24, 22.0% from 25 to 44, 28.0% from 45 to 64, and 21.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females there were 105.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.8 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $22,679, and the median income for a family was $34,479. Males had a median income of $22,813 versus $20,000 for females. The per capita income for the town was $15,253. About 9.7% of families and 13.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 22.5% of those under age 18 and 5.6% of those age 65 or over.
