Star Trek: Chains of Betrayal is a fan-fiction film written and directed by Derek Howard and Racan Souiedan. The film is an episode of approximately forty minutes in length that takes place during season five of Star Trek: The Next Generation, soon after the events in "Unification". The script was written during the summer months of 2005.
Chains of Betrayal was made over a period of four shooting days in January 2007 at Simon Fraser University's Harbour Centre campus in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia. The entire project was completed on a budget of under $200, largely thanks to the extensive use of a green screen by the crew. Cinematography and editing were completed by Sam Scott and Jamie Quast respectively.
The film debuted at Vancouver's Astoria Hotel on the night of Wednesday, April 30, 2008. The Toronto premiere was held on Saturday, September 27, 2008 as part of the Trekzac Festicon. The official DVD release party and screening took place on Thursday, November 27, 2008 in Vancouver, BC at VIVO Media Arts Centre. The film was also selected as part of Khan Con, a Star Trek mini-convention held at the Rio Theatre in Vancouver, BC on May 16, 2009. The United States premiere occurred at the 2009 Wrath of Khan science-fiction convention and film festival in Panama City Beach, Florida. The film premiered in Edmonton, Alberta at Leva Cafe on December 22, 2010. Chains of Betrayal will likely continue screening sporadically throughout North America. The film is non-profit in nature, and is meant purely as a tribute to a show that members of both the cast and crew love dearly.

[edit] Storyline
In a universe bound by chains, join the heroic crew of the starship Enterprise-D in an epic journey that takes them into the darkest depths of the Romulan Neutral Zone. The sudden disappearance of Captain Jean-Luc Picard causes implications that could resonate across the entire Alpha Quadrant. Commander William Riker must take command of the Enterprise, and guide his crew through a treacherous web of lies and betrayal that surround this untimely death. Due to the recent mind-meld they shared together, Ambassador Spock is sent to investigate Picard’s disappearance, undermining a shattered Riker. Spock wastes no time in polarizing the crew, searching through personnel logs, and making accusations. Suspicions of conspiracy as to what may be happening behind closed doors onboard the Enterprise, and beyond, upsets the balance of power. The presence of Ambassador Spock on the Federation flagship initiates a chain reaction – that ultimately envelops the Klingons, Romulans, and even Starfleet’s highest-ranking officials. Will these chains of betrayal ever be broken?
