Starhill Gallery is a luxury retail mall located in the Bukit Bintang shopping district of Kuala Lumpur. The mall opened in 1996 as Starhill Shopping Centre. In 1999, when business was in decline, it was acquired by YTL Corporation. YTL decided to do away with the anchor tenant-based business model and transform Starhill into a luxury brand retail centre. It underwent extensive renovation led by architect David Rockwell and reopened in July 2005 as Starhill Gallery.
In 2009 Stephen Pimbley of SPARK was appointed to refurbish the facade, entrance foyer interior and erect a new retail pavilion which connects to the mall via a sky bridge, the pavilion is currently leased to Sephora. The crystalline facets of the new starhill facade transformed the streetscape of Bukit Bintang and was deemed to be one of KL's tourist attractions by Wonderful Malaysia.com. The new starhill gallery by Spark Architects was inaugurated by Julio Iglesias and the King and Queen of Malaysia, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Raja Permaisuri Agong on 2 December 2011. It was shortlisted for the World Architecture Festival (WAF) Award in 2013 in the Shopping category.
The mall is connected to the JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur by a "Time Tunnel".
