State Road 56 is a six lane highway three miles (5 km) in length that runs from Bruce B. Downs Boulevard in Southern Wesley Chapel in the east to State Road 54 in Land O' Lakes in the west. It was opened on March 28, 2002 after three years of construction. It allows direct access to Interstate 75 two miles (3 km) north of the northern terminus of Interstate 275.

[edit] Future

An extension to US 301 in Zephyrhills is being planned by the Florida Department of Transportation, and has been part of the plan since the highway's conception.[2] The first phase of expansion has already started as of March 2008 to mark the imminent opening of the Shops at Wiregrass.[3] On July 31, 2010, after numerous delays, the extension of SR 56 to Meadow Point Boulevard opened for vehicle traffic.
