Stephen Purdy

Stephen Purdy (born 1970 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi) is a vocal and performance coach for Broadway musicals and for Broadway and West End actors and a conductor and pianist for Broadway shows. Before working on Broadway, Purdy worked as a Wall Street broker.[1]

Purdy studied vocal performance and piano at the University of Mississippi and Vocal Pedagogy at Westminster College.

Purdy spent many years in Europe conducting and playing tours of the musical productions of Grease, A Chorus Line, 42nd Street, and with Grease in Paris, France. His work on Broadway includes Disney's Tarzan, Glory Days, Peter Pan (starring Cathy Rigby), the original Fantasticks and Frankenstein with Hunter Foster and has also toured the United States with the Broadway Musicals The Full Monty, Spelling Bee, and Peter Pan.

As a vocal and performance coach he maintains a private studio for voice coaching in Manhattan, and makes regular contributions to master classes at Universities and performing arts groups across the US and internationally notably in The Netherlands, Spain and Shanghai, China as well as The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.

He is on the Voice and Musical Theatre Faculty at Marymount Manhattan College in New York City and the American Musical Theatre Academy of London and is the author of a book entitled Musical Theatre Song: Selection. Preparation and Presentation published by Bloomsbury and to be released Fall 2014.

Stephen Purdy lives in New York City and London U.K. He is married to actress Kendall Kelly and they have one son, Caden.
