The fourth series of Strictly Come Dancing started on 7 October 2006 and ended on 23 December 2006. It was presented by Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly, and the winner was Mark Ramprakash and his dancing partner Karen Hardy.

The show[edit]

For more information, see the main article.

The show works by having four judges: Craig Revel Horwood, Arlene Phillips, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli, judging each couple out of ten after each performance. When all the couples have danced, they are inserted onto the leaderboard, where the highest ranked couple will get the highest amount of points available, and the lowest ranked couple getting one point.

On the second show of the night, once the viewers' votes are in, the points from the leaderboard are added to those created by the viewer votes to find the two lowest ranked couples, and the lowest ranked couple go home.

Weekly Songs and Scores Week 1

Additional information[edit]

  • This Series saw the addition of 2 new competitive dances to Strictly Come Dancing, the Salsa danced in Week 5 and the Argentine Tango danced only by the semi-finalists
  • In week one, the male celebrity couples danced for the judges and the public vote, while the female celebrity couples performed a group dance. This was reversed in week two. Jimmy Tarbuck did not take part in the male celebrities' group dance due to health reasons, and officially withdrew from the competition the following week. From week three, all couples were marked against each other
  • Mark and Karen made Strictly Come Dancing history in week five by being the first couple who had to restart a routine. They were forced to stop after Mark's microphone was caught in Karen's dress. In spite of this, they received another go and went on to receive the highest score of the night
  • In the results show of week 10, the two couples with the lowest combined score had to perform a "dance-off" for survival. However, it was possible for viewers to calculate the points combination that each couple received beforehand, which indicated that the result was actually unaffected by the dance-off
  • Lilia Kopylova made Strictly history by becoming the first professional winner to reach two consecutive finals. Her record has since been equalled by Aliona Vilani, who got to the 2010 and 2011 finals, and Pasha Kovalev who came second in 2011 and 2012.
  • Mark Ramprakash's victory meant that this was the second consecutive series which had been won by a cricketer.

Week 1: There was a 3-way tie at the top of the leaderboard.

Week 2: Emma & Darren's Quickstep received a comment saying 'Who could ask for anything more' according to the song they were dancing to.

Week 3: Jimmy Tarbuck had to withdraw due to health reasons. Louisa & Vincent's Jive scored the first 10 of the series from Bruno Tonioli. Matt had a poor start but turned things around.

Week 4: Mark was afraid of women but impressed the judges with their Paso Doble. Although Georgina deserved to be eliminated, she improved and found the Foxtrot more suitable for her.

Week 5: Mark was HOT HOT HOT on the dance-floor and performed a sizzling Salsa.

Week 6: Matt Dawson had a poor start to the competition but definitely turned things around with his dance.

Week 7: Matt Dawson was King of the Ballroom and scored the highest score of the series including Len's first 10 he'd given.

Week 8: Matt Dawson had a latin dance but Len said that he improved in latin.

Week 9: Mark, Matt, Emma, Louisa and Carol (the five remaining competitors) perform two dances this week.

Week 10: It was Double Trouble again for our celebrities. Matt & Lilia almost made their latin as good as their ballroom and scored a very good 32 points.

Week 11: Mark & Karen wowed the judges and the audience with their Argentine Tango but in previous weeks, Mark didn't manage to find the important 10 until then.

Week 12: The winners were........................ MARK & KAREN!
