Studio Roosegaarde
Studio Roosegaarde is a techno artistic laboratory based in Rotterdam, Netherlands, which has made several internationally acclaimed interactive artworks such as Dune, Intimacy 2.0 and Lotus. Launched by artist Daan Roosegaarde, it is well known for its interactive installations that explore the dynamic relation between space, people, and technology. In interaction with Roosegaarde's work, visitors become active participants, passive observers and eventually part of the artwork's identity. Within this dynamic relation between human and technology, the human senses are triggered to create a sensual engagement with their environment, pointing out that technology is not just an extension, but a co-creator of our world.
The studio develops its own technology and has been the focus of many international shows such as in Hong Kong, Tate Modern and Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Tokyo National Museum. Besides exhibitions in museums, the studio is working on larger scale installations in architecture and public space, such as Sensor Valley in Assen and developing their own ‘in-house’ productions such as Liquid Space 6.1. In 2011 Studio Roosegaarde opened its second studio in Shanghai, China.

[edit] Daan Roosegaarde
After graduating from sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts (AKI) in Enschede and from a master in architecture at the Berlage Institute in Rotterdam, Daan Roosegaarde wanted to combine disciplines in order to research the possibilities in developing interactive and digital environments. In 2006, Daan Roosegaarde founded Studio Roosegaarde, which has been developing interactive installations in collaboration with various material manufacturers, software programmers and other whiz kids.
"For too long, the concept of space has been a sum of walls, doors and windows. I have always felt a need to make work which could function as an activating mediator" Daan Roosegaarde [1]
Daan's inspiration stems from his many travels and public spaces where people interact with each other and the environment. Daan believes human interaction to be the key ingredient to his work. His Dune and Intimacy are tactile high-tech environments in which viewer and space become one. This connection, established between ideology and technology, results in what Roosegaarde calls “techno-poetry”.[2] He is also known as an innovator and frequent invited lecturer with his motto "Don't Copy-Paste, but Copy-Morph".
