Sucker Flat (formerly, Gatesville)[2] is an unincorporated community in Yuba County, California. It is located just northeast of Smartsville,[2] at an elevation of 587 feet (179 m).
Gatesville was named for an early settler from Illinois.[2] Sucker is from the nickname of Illinois as the "Sucker State".[2]
