Sumi Das (Hindi: सुमी दास) is the former co-host of TechTV's Fresh Gear. On July 3, 2003,[1] she left TechTV to join the cable news channel MSNBC as a reporter. While there, she reported from Modesto, California on the Scott Peterson trial.
She most recently worked for CNN as a national correspondent, based in Washington, D.C.. In September 2005, Das filed reports from parts of Mississippi ravaged by Hurricane Katrina, and provided custom live reports for local stations affiliated with CNN Newsource.
She is currently freelancing at KTVU in San Francisco. In addition, she works as a reporter for CBS's BNET.

Sumi Das was born in Wimbledon, England in 1972, where she lived until the age of seven.[citation needed] Sumi Das is of Indian heritage. Her family is from the Indian state of Assam. She graduated in 1995 with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from the University of California at Berkeley.
She is married to Tim Ryan, an electrical engineer. She and Tim Ryan had a child together in 2007.
