Pichai Sundararajan, better known as Sundar Pichai, is an Indian-born, naturalized American, senior vice president at Google, where he oversees Android, Chrome and Google Apps.[1][2][3][4] He received his Bachelors in Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and was awarded an Institute Silver Medal.[5] He holds an M.S. from Stanford University and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was named a Siebel Scholar[6][7] and a Palmer Scholar.
Pichai worked in engineering and product management at Applied Materials and in management consulting at McKinsey & Company.[8]
Pichai joined Google in 2004, where he led the product management and innovation efforts for a suite of Google's client software products, including Google Chrome and Chrome OS, as well as being largely responsible for Google Drive. He went on to oversee the development of different apps like Gmail and Google Maps.[9][10] On 19 November 2009, Pichai gave a demonstration of Chrome OS.[11] On 20 May 2010, he announced the open-sourcing of the new video codec VP8 by Google, and introduced the new video format WebM.[12]
On 13 March 2013, Pichai added Android to the Google products he oversees. Android was formerly managed by Andy Rubin.[13] He was believed to be one of the contenders for the CEO position of Microsoft in 2014.[14]
He serves as a Member of Board of Advisors at Ruba, Inc[citation needed]. He was a Director of Jive Software from April 2011[15] till July 30, 2013.[16] Pichai is married and has a daughter and a son.[3]
