[edit] Overview

After finishing the previous season as champions of the Championship, Roy Keane looked to strengthen his squad for his first season as a Premiership manager. The Drumaville Consortium made good with their promise to financially back the manager, spending over £27 million on players during the summer, including the record-breaking signing of goalkeeper Craig Gordon.

Sunderland toured Ireland during pre-season, before a home game against Italian side Juventus to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Stadium of Light.
