A non-binding referendum on prohibition of alcohol was held in Sweden on 27 August 1922.[1]

The voter turnout was 55.1%, and the suggestion failed by 51% against 49%.[1]

There was plenty of campaigning from both sides, the most remembered poster being designed by artist Albert Engström, with the famous quote Kräftor kräva dessa drycker ("crayfish require these drinks").

Women were allowed to vote in Sweden since 1919, and 63 % of them voted in favour of prohibition, while 63 % of the men voted against. Ballots were different for men and women.
